Staying productive and organized is a challenge. One day the most you do is get out of bed, and the next, your cleaning everything in sight. I think the hardest thing for me is finding the motivation to be productive. Sometimes there is so much to do that you don’t know where to start. So, I created five simple ways to help me be productive and get organized.
Make your bed
Making your bed is one of the more essential steps in your morning routine; it’s also the most annoying. I struggled with making my bed every morning, and I would always say I don’t have time or that it’s not that big of a deal. But when I started working from home, it became a big deal. We feel more productive when our bed is made because our bed is the prominent object in our room. If the rest of the room is a disaster, it looks less of a disaster once the bed is made. If you struggle with making your bed, then I have a podcast recommendation. It’s called Make your damn bed, a motivational podcast by Julie Merica. The episodes are 1 to 3 minutes, put one on while you make your bed, and you will realize how quick and easy it is.
Organize part of your closet.
If you are like most of the human population, I am sure you have some old clothes in the back of your closet that you say you’ll wear, but you never do. At least I do. But when it’s time to clean out the closet, it can be very overwhelming to do it all at once. So instead, focus on different sections at a time. It makes the task seem less daunting. Who knows, once you start one area, you may want to do more.
I usually start with this task because it’s the most therapeutic for me. I love my plants; they help liven up my room, and they genuinely do make me happy. I love watching them grow; it makes me feel accomplished. I recommend buying a cheap spray bottle and watering your plants whenever they need it. This simple task helps me feel productive.
Throw away old products or give them away.
The best thing to do is give away the products you do not use or throw away expired products. I am guilty of using products that are past expiration, more makeup than skincare. But after purging out my makeup collection, my space feels a lot less cluttered and more organized. Another thing to do is give away products you don’t want. It’s a waste of product and space for them to sit there. Instead, give them to some friends and family.
Make to-do lists 3 to 5 tasks at a time.
When I wrote to-do lists, I would always write down every little thing I had to do. When I finished writing the list, it would be 10 to 20 tasks. I was more stressed than anything. Now, I make a to-do list with only a couple of things at a time. It makes the tasks feel more achievable and less time-consuming. If it helps, I also will separate my reminder list from my to-do list to stay more organized.
Staying productive is not easy, and you don’t need to be every day. I certainly am not. However, I think starting with the small stuff does help accomplish the big. If you have any tips or ways you stay productive, let me know!
